In a small Italian village, there was an old man named Giuseppe who had spent most of his life as a mechanic. Giuseppe was a very skilled man and had a great love for classic cars, in particular for the classic Fiat 500. He loved them so much, because they reminded him of his youth, and because he had learned to be a mechanic working on classic Fiats 500
One day, as he was walking through the streets of the village, he saw an old Fiat 500 parked in a driveway on the side of the road. It was in terrible shape, covered with so many random objects, with faded paint and flat tires. Giuseppe knew he had to have it.
He knocks on the door of that house to ask for information on the unfortunate Fiat 500. A boy in his thirties opens the door for him. He said he didn’t know much about that piece of scrap metal. It had been his grandfather’s, but then it had been parked there for years. He told Giuseppe that shortly thereafter they would come to pick her up to take her to the landfill. Giuseppe asked if he could take her away. The boy happily agreed that he didn’t have to pay a tow truck to have her taken away.
Once brought home, Giuseppe spent the following 8 months restoring her and bringing her back to life. Now, even though there was still some work to be done, that Fiat 500 looked like a true work of art: fresh paint, redone engine, clean interior.
Giuseppe loved his classic Fiat 500 as if it were a member of his family. He used it every day to go to the town square and attended all the gatherings in its vicinity. His Fiat 500 was always the most admired at every event.
Unfortunately, one day Giuseppe fell seriously ill and did not have enough time to complete the final restoration of his beloved Fiat 500. After his death, the Fiat 500 was left in a garage, forgotten and neglected. History, sadly, repeated itself. More years of neglect would follow, making it lose, for the second time, the beauty and splendor that the loving care of its owners had given it.
But one day, a young vintage car enthusiast, Marco, entered the garage and noticed the Fiat 500. It was in bad condition, but Marco knew it was a special car, he knew its history. He decided to buy it and restore it in honor of Giuseppe.
He spent months working on the car, repairing every piece and caring for it with love and attention. In the end, the Fiat 500 came back to life, as splendid as it had been in the 1960s. Marco attended a classic car event in Giuseppe’s village and brought his beloved Fiat 500 as a tribute to the man who had loved it so much.
The elders of the village recognized the car and remembered Giuseppe. Their eyes filled with tears as they saw the refurbished Fiat 500, shining in the sun, in a tribute to a man who had spent his life repairing and restoring classic cars.
Marco knew that the car was much more than just a piece of metal: it was a treasure, a memory of a person he had loved and who had lived his life appreciating the beauty of the simplest things. And so, Giuseppe’s vintage Fiat 500 lived on, bringing joy and happiness to all who saw it.
What you have just read is a fictional story, but which takes its cue from the many stories that, thanks to our work, we have heard over the years. We like to think that for every Fiat 500 that we finds a new owner, there is a Giuseppe who, from up there, looks at his Fiat 500 and smiles, and maybe even a little moved.

An excerpt from the E-Book “What to look for before buying a classic Fiat 500” follows:
- UNDERBODY CHECK
Robustness and integrity Platforms
Take the flashlight and blanket or cardboard and place it on the floor. Lie down on the ground and check the condition of the funds. check that there is no passing rust or holes. Taking care not to cut yourself and using a screwdriver, tap the tip in various areas of the floor and check the solidity of the floor. If the screwdriver goes beyond the floor with the tip, it will mean that Something is rotten in the state of Denmark
If the bottom is nice and clean and the shapes are clearly visible (as in the photos above), then the floor is certainly in good condition or has been replaced with a new one.
If, on the contrary, the shapes are not clearly visible, then it could be that all that excess material is there to cover imperfections and rotten parts. Look at the examples below:
Since you’re already lying on the ground, continue the search in the lower part of the car. Check the corrugated bulkhead located behind the rear fender.
You can find it here, at the rear of the fender.
From experience, if the restoration was done in a rough way, they will not have even looked in this area. Check that there is no rust and that the part is solid.
If not, you could have problems during the testing phase, or almost certainly if you decide to re-register the Fiat 500 outside Italy.
Since by now you will have been lying down for at least a quarter of an hour, if you have not fallen asleep, check the quality of the paint jobs. With your pretty little fingernail, try to scratch the paint on the undersides of the car, if it comes off it’s because the paint was applied directly to the dirt.
Rear
I know you want to get up, but wait a few more minutes. Now, cross your hands and place them on your abdomen, take a deep breath, look at the sky and relax, Done? perfect!
After you have relaxed a bit, and without getting up yet, check the engine for oil leaks. Run your hand over the oil pan to see if there is any…

The classic Fiat 500 is a small, slow car with very simple mechanics. But then, why is it so appreciated and desired by so many people around the world? Precisely because of these characteristics: it is small, slow and easy to fix.

Ok, let’s not digress and go straight to the list of reasons why you should own a classic Fiat 500.
THE FIAT 500 MAKES YOU HAPPY: Look, have you ever seen someone sad driving a classic Fiat 500? Despite being one of the least performing cars in the world, driving a classic Fiat 500 will immediately make you forget any problems. But not only. Going around with your beautiful Fiat 500, perhaps painted in a nice pastel colour, will also make the people who meet you on the street happy. So, let’s make the world a more colorful and happier place.
YOU HAVE NO PARKING PROBLEMS: You will be able to park your Fiat 500 anywhere. Its small size will make it easy to find parking even on usually crowded streets. But unlike cars of the same size, such as the Smart, the classic Fiat 500 can carry 4 people.
ECONOMICAL MAINTENANCE: its constructive simplicity will make both repairs and maintenance economical. The spare parts can all be found very easily, and the cost is very affordable.
IT’S DIFFICULT TO GET FINES: With the classic Fiat 500 you can go flat out in front of speed cameras, its maximum speed will certainly be below the imposed limit. For this reason you will be able to experience the thrill of speeding past a checkpoint or a speed camera, without being fined. A great satisfaction, what do you say?
IT HAS AN OPENABLE SUNROOF: I left it for last, not because it’s the least important, on the contrary, I personally believe that the most beautiful thing is precisely that of being able to open the sunroof and enjoy the view from the bottom up, and be caressed hair from a cool breeze.
The Fiat 500 has a sunroof only to be able to reduce production costs and use less metal, and I think this can be the demonstration of how a problem can become a strength.
